Chandramukhi 2 is a 2023 Indian Tamil-language comedy horror film written and directed by P. Vasu, produced by Subaskaran Allirajah under the banner Lyca Productions. It is the direct sequel to the blockbuster 2005 film Chandramukhi. The film stars Raghava Lawrence in dual roles, Kangana Ranaut in the titular role of Chandramukhi, and Lakshmi Menon in pivotal roles. The supporting cast includes Vadivelu, Radhika Sarathkumar, Mahima Nambiar, Srushti Dange, Rao Ramesh, Subiksha Krishnan, Suresh Chandra Menon, Ravi Mariya, Vignesh, and Y. G. Mahendran.
The plot follows a wealthy family that reunites with long-lost relatives for a religious function. However, their gathering unknowingly reignites an ancient conflict between the court dancer Chandramukhi and King Vettaiyan Raja. One of the family members becomes possessed by the spirit, leading to a dangerous chain of events. A psychiatrist is called in to investigate and resolve the haunting, but the supernatural threat proves more dangerous than expected.
The music is composed by M. M. Keeravani, marking his return to Tamil cinema after nearly 22 years. Cinematography is handled by R. D. Rajasekhar, and editing by Anthony. The film mixes supernatural horror with comedic elements, much like its predecessor, but with a fresh cast and modern production values.
Despite high expectations due to the success of the original Chandramukhi, the film received largely negative reviews from critics. Many felt that the screenplay lacked the charm, tension, and strong characterization that made the first film a classic. While the horror sequences had potential, critics noted that the humor often felt forced, and the narrative pacing was inconsistent.

Chandramukhi 2 had big shoes to fill, following the cult success of its predecessor. While the film offers moments of entertainment and benefits from strong performances by Raghava Lawrence and Kangana Ranaut, it fails to recreate the suspense and charm of the original. The horror-comedy balance feels uneven, and the screenplay is stretched with repetitive scenes. Critics from The Indian Express called it “a mind-numbing sequel that taints the legacy of the original,” while The Hindu found it “mildly entertaining but unnecessary.” Overall, it’s a missed opportunity that relies heavily on nostalgia without delivering a fresh experience.
